You cannot open the cable box at your house without the proper key, which is only held by the cable company employees. Besides, even though the box is on your property, it is protected as a property of the cable company by laws, and you can be arrested and convicted for messing with it.

You typically need a special tool to open that box. You can buy it usually online I do not believe it is available in local stores. The tool is called a Cable Terminator Tool.
